SANIBEL ISLAND, FL -

A crowd of more than 800 people helped break a Guinness Book of World Records at Bowman's Beach on Sanibel, all stooping for seashells at the same time.

"It was really fun. It's a once in a lifetime experience," said Carla Perez of Cape Coral.

For Jeremy Litton, this world record makes two.

"This is my second time in the book. My name will be there twice," he exclaimed.

Shell collectors coming from as far away as Switzerland to get their hands on part of the prize.

"It's a nice chance to be in the record book and to have a holiday here," said 20-year-old Sandra Wanten.

Breaking the world record is just the start of a two week "shell-abration" on Sanibel and Captiva, celebrating 75 years old shell fairs and shell shows.
